City staff brief council on culvert replacement, waterline tie and upcoming park budget

Public works staff updated the Payson City Council on Jan. 15 about current infrastructure work and near-term closures.
Travis (city staff) reported that 930 West is closed between 1400 South and 1130 South for box-culvert replacement; after that project is complete crews will move to the west side portion serving an age 55-and-over community. He said the culvert work is grant-funded. Separately, staff said a waterline tie-in near the intersection of Main Street and 1800 South will require a closure for most of the day on an upcoming Friday to connect infrastructure for the Patterson development.
Council and staff also discussed a proposed new park near 930 West toward the temple trail. Staff said the project is included in the draft budget and would not begin until the next fiscal year (July 1) unless the council chooses to accelerate funding and start in the spring. Staff noted trees and landscaping would likely be planted in the fall if construction began in spring.
Councilors suggested pursuing an outdoor recreation grant to help fund the park and asked staff to follow up. Staff and council members agreed to provide public notices via social media for the scheduled closures and to coordinate with nearby residents.
