The Georgia House of Representatives on Friday confirmed the journal of the previous legislative day, adopted a resolution establishing the order of business for the day, heard first readings of numerous bills including multiple appropriations measures, adopted several privileged resolutions and adjourned until 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.
The actions set the chamber's agenda ahead of next week’s appropriations hearings and placed dozens of measures — including multiple appropriations bills — on the formal calendar. Chairman Hilton, chair of the House Committee on Information and Audits, reported that the journal of the previous legislative day had been read and “found to be correct,” and the house dispensed with and confirmed the journal without objection.
The clerk then read a resolution establishing the day’s order of business; the House adopted the resolution after the chair noted there was no objection. On first reading the clerk announced House Bills 67 through 93, which included multiple measures described as appropriations bills and bills touching education, transportation, public safety, taxes and retirement. The chamber also listed several bills on second reading, including House Bills 59–66, which address education funding formulas, licensing and court provisions.
Members adopted a group of privileged resolutions honoring individuals and recognizing events, including resolutions honoring the life and memory of Bryce Allen Johnson and Barry A. Brown, recognizing the 51st anniversary of the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta, commending Sheriff Ron Freeman, recognizing Travis Strickland as the 2024 West Georgia Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year, and congratulating Great Dane on its 125th anniversary. The chair announced there was no objection and the resolutions were adopted.
The majority leader moved to adjourn; the motion carried on a voice vote and the House stood adjourned until 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025. The clerk and the chair handled the procedural steps on the floor; the transcript records no roll-call tallies for the adoptions and the adjournment, which the chair treated as having passed without objection.
Members used the remainder of the session for announcements about upcoming events, including the legislature’s appropriations hearings next week and several civic and caucus events scheduled on the capitol grounds. No final passage votes on the bills listed in first reading occurred during the session; those measures were placed on the calendar for future consideration.
