Zoning Board of Appeals postpones multiple cases, elects chair and vice chair

The Pompano Beach Zoning Board of Appeals took three formal actions at its Jan. 16 meeting: it postponed a variance for 505 North Ocean LLC to Feb. 20, postponed a special-exception application for Borley Warehouse Inc. to Feb. 20 because no one appeared, and elected Daniel Yaffe chair and Charlotte Burry vice chair for 2025.

Early in the meeting staff said the applicant for item 1 (505 North Ocean LLC) asked to postpone the variance to the board’s Feb. 20, 2025 meeting at 6 p.m.; the board approved the request. Development Services staff noted the item does not require re-advertising unless the applicant submits new plans by a staff deadline (January 22, 2025), in which case the matter would be re-advertised.

When the board called the special-exception case for Borley Warehouse Inc. (PNC 24 DF 1701711, as listed on the agenda), no applicant representatives were present; the board postponed the item to Feb. 20 and noted that if the applicant fails to appear at the next hearing the case will be stricken or considered withdrawn.

In annual organizational business the board elected Daniel Yaffe as chair and Charlotte Burry as vice chair. The nominations passed by acclamation; the roll call recorded affirmative votes from members present.

The board also reminded applicants that, as a general practice discussed at the hearing, applicants are ordinarily entitled to one postponement not to exceed 60 days and that additional postponements are discretionary.
