Board members reviewed evaluation materials and a rubric for evaluating the superintendent during Thursday’s work session and discussed next steps for a midyear (formative) review.
Superintendent Dr. Bornay told trustees the packet contains the Indiana superintendent-evaluation guide and a rubric he submitted as a self-evaluation. The board’s legal counsel recommended a two-step approach: an initial public overview of the documents and process, followed by a separate session in which trustees use the rubric and contract goals to conduct the formal evaluation, noting that the evaluation work is commonly completed in executive session.
Trustees discussed that the midyear review functions as a formative check on progress against the superintendent’s and board’s goals and suggested board training on the evaluation tool so all members use the rubric consistently. Several trustees said they had previously received versions of the documents and suggested scheduling a follow-up meeting to perform the evaluation.
No formal evaluation scores or personnel determinations were recorded in the work session. Trustees indicated they would return prepared to conduct the evaluation at a later date and explore board training on the tool for consistency.
