Dr. Bornay said the revisions respond to staffing changes since the start of the school year and were intended to allow closer supervision of principals while delegating other senior‑director responsibilities to two roles that would report to the superintendent. He said the executive director of business operations position had already been posted and that the assistant superintendent position would be posted internally to permit a rapid appointment.
Trustees raised questions about workload and gaps. Trustee Gomez, several trustees and other board members expressed concern that assigning elementary education, social-emotional learning, school improvement, special education and English-learner supervision to a single assistant superintendent could be overly burdensome. Several trustees recommended adding a dedicated director of secondary education (middle- and high-school oversight); Dr. Bornay said he could return within 24 to 48 hours with a recommended adjustment to assign additional supervisory responsibilities if the board wished to add that role.
Trustees also confirmed the executive director of business operations would serve as the chief financial officer and that the director of food service duties would be folded under that office or delegated. Board members discussed posting and recruitment logistics and confirmed the organizational-chart changes would appear on an upcoming board agenda for formal action.
No final vote or personnel appointment was made during the work session; trustees asked staff for follow-up information and for a clarified proposal that addresses the secondary‑education request.
