Clovis reports rise in Hillcrest senior meals after city takeover; hiring drivers

The City of Clovis took over the Hillcrest Senior Life Center meal program in December and served 385 seniors that month, committee members heard.
The change followed a vendor transition to Summit Foods, which staff said improved meal quality and service. "We are growing and growing. There have been, since Summit Foods has come in and started serving the meals, the quality of meals have improved," Miss Reagan told the City of Clovis Senior Services Committee.
Committee members were given attendance and delivery figures. For December, staff reported 256 congregate meals and 91 home-delivered meals. Officials also identified additional clients who were not registered in time for year-end reporting: 16 home-delivery recipients and 21 congregate diners whose records were incomplete as of Dec. 31. Reagan said staff have been working to complete reassessments and updates; she reported 21 reassessments in December and 43 completed so far in January.
To reduce crowding at lunch, the Hillcrest site adjusted service hours from a tighter midday slot to 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. "Originally, they were 11 to 1. While Charisma was there, we kinda cut back to 11:30 to 12:30 ... The new operating hours are 11 AM to 12:30 PM," Reagan said.
The city is also recruiting delivery drivers. Reagan said three meal-delivery driver positions are open and that she is conducting interviews; one strong candidate interviewed the morning of the meeting. The work is Monday–Friday, roughly 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a starting wage of $13.50 an hour, Reagan said.
Committee members praised staff for the transition work. "Thank you, Miss Reagan," Miss Burrows said during the meeting, and other members echoed appreciation for staff effort.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the meal program during the discussion. Staff said they will continue reassessments and monitoring as they implement the changes.
The Senior Services Committee is scheduled to meet again March 13.
