Planning Commission hears update on Salinas General Plan draft, schedules next outreach and council study session

City planning staff told the Salinas Planning Commission on Jan. 15 that the city is in the final stages of preparing an administrative draft of the General Plan update and expects to release a public review draft in the near term. Courtney Grossman, planning manager, said legal review of the last chapter was completed the prior week and staff will reconvene the steering committee when the public review draft is available.
Grossman and other staff asked commissioners to note a City Council study session scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27, when staff will present the general plan update and hold a study session on the economic development element. Staff said the next phase of outreach will accompany the public review draft and steering committee reconvening.
Commissioners and staff discussed upcoming calendars: the commission's next regular meeting is set for Feb. 5 but may be canceled if no items are scheduled; staff said they expect items for the Feb. 19 meeting related to actions at the intermodal transit center near Market Street and Main.
No formal action was taken on the general plan update at the Jan. 15 meeting; staff asked commissioners to hold Jan. 27 on their calendars and to expect notice when the public review draft is released.
