Boys & Girls Club leaders introduce new local leadership, offer partnership to Oak Ridge Schools

At the Oak Ridge Board of Education’s Nov. 18 public forum, representatives of the local Boys & Girls Club introduced new leadership and asked the district to continue and deepen school–club partnerships.

Alex Myers identified himself at the podium and said the club has been rehabilitated over the past five to six years by leaders including Aaron Webb and Sean Summers. He said Erin (last name not specified) is leaving the role and that Jeremy Mitchell has served as program director since June. Myers said he is taking the chief executive role. "Our door is always open," he said, offering the club as a partner "from preschool ... all the way up until high school."

Jeremy Mitchell, who said he grew up in Oak Ridge and attended the club, told the board the organization wants to collaborate with all schools to help students "grow with our community more and build well rounded young people to come back and give back to that community as well."

Board members thanked the presenters and emphasized the value of after-school programming. The chair noted many students have no structured after-school option and described the Boys & Girls Club as an important community partner that can help students succeed when they return to school.
