Amador County Unified approves MOU with University of Massachusetts Global for staff fieldwork placements

The Amador County Unified School District Board of Trustees voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with University of Massachusetts Global that will allow district staff enrolled in the university’s credential and education programs to complete required fieldwork in district schools.
The agreement, presented by district staff, covers field placements for teacher education, school counseling, school psychology, educational administration and educational specialist credentialing programs. It specifies that cooperating teachers who supervise fieldwork will receive a $200 stipend per eight‑week session paid by the university; the district will not fund tuition or registration costs for participating students.
District presenter Dr. Palazuelos said the MOU is “very limited in that it would be teacher education, school counseling, school psychology, education administration or admin program, and educational specialist credentialing programs” and described the arrangement as “an awesome opportunity for us to be able to continue to expand the opportunities for staff that are interested in going into the field of education and give us an opportunity to be able to support them in their efforts.”
Board members asked whether the $200 cooperating‑teacher stipend is a district expense; Dr. Palazuelos replied that “this is a stipend that is paid by the university to the individuals that are providing the cooperating teacher” supervision, and reiterated that “we are not providing any funding towards tuition, or any of the costs for our, for any of these students.”
The board approved the item by roll call. The motion was seconded and carried by recorded yes votes. The district plans to use existing site agreements and personnel to host placements and said the MOU will be a companion document to other university partnerships the district maintains.
The MOU was described as a field‑work placement agreement only; it does not create tuition subsidies or district‑paid course fees for employees who enroll in University of Massachusetts Global programs.
Implementation details and any site‑specific placement logistics will be handled by district staff as employees apply to and enroll in the university programs.
