Speaker 2, presenter, described the county's early names and agriculture, saying the Spanish "aptly named it Mosquito County" and that oranges were introduced by Spanish settlers, which contributed to the county's later name. Speaker 3, presenter, added local family history tied to early settlement, saying, "They settled just south of present day downtown Orlando on Lake Catherine, 2 miles west of Fort Gatlin" and that settlers came under the Armed Occupation Act to obtain land.
Speaker 4, presenter, placed the anniversary in a civic context, saying, "It's important to study history because it tells us where we've been, and it provides the basis for our citizens to understand their role and their place in our community."
Speaker 1 also read a letter from the president of the United States.
