PBSO and village preview ‘Day for Autism’ community event set for Feb. 23 at Village Park

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigator Scott Ports updated the Village Council on the annual “Day for Autism” event, which the Sheriff’s Office and the village organize in partnership with the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD).
Ports, a former Wellington deputy who helped start the event in 2018, described three core goals: build positive relationships between law enforcement and people with autism; bring resources to families who may not otherwise find them; and provide a celebratory, low‑stress event where families can participate in activities tailored to autistic children. Ports said the event was paused in 2020 because of COVID and has grown since: last year the event drew roughly 1,300 participants, about 52 resource vendors and raised more than $15,000 through sponsorships and fundraising.
Ports said the 2025 event is scheduled for Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Village Park. He said the event is free for participants and free for resource vendors so cost is not a barrier to organizations that provide services; organizations wishing to participate can register via Eventbrite and sponsors can contact Ports. Ports also credited village staff — naming Michelle Garvey and Mark Belcourt — for logistical support.
Mayor and council members thanked Ports and the partners and invited residents to attend; Ports said printed flyers would be available at the meeting’s back table and on social media. The council did not take any formal action on the presentation.
