City Service Commission approves slate of personnel actions, exemptions and reinstatement

MILWAUKEE — The Board of City Service Commissioners on Jan. 14 approved a series of routine but consequential personnel actions including classification reports, temporary appointment extensions, probationary extensions, exemptions for several grant-funded or time-limited positions and the reinstatement of a city employee.

The approvals came during the commission’s regular meeting and were filed through communications from departments including the Department of Employee Relations (DER), Department of Public Works, Milwaukee Public Library, Milwaukee Health Department, Employee Retirement Services (ERS), Department of Neighborhood Services and the city attorney’s office.

The commission approved minutes from the Dec. 14, 2024 meeting and a communication (file 241-1429) from DER to reclassify or create three positions: an innovation policy analyst in the Department of Administration (repurposed from a budget and fiscal policy analyst), a program assistant I in Public Works Administrative Services for inventory reconciliation, and a position control specialist for the Fire and Police Commission to support Workday and position management. Andrea Knickerbocker presented the classification reports to commissioners.

Commissioners also approved temporary appointment extensions and probationary-period extensions as presented in department communications. Notable personnel actions include:
