Chesterfield school board elects Kim Birch chair, Scott Sims vice chair; Robert Teal named secretary

The Chesterfield County School District Board of Trustees elected Kim Birch as board chair, Scott Sims as vice chair and Robert Teal as secretary during its Jan. 13 meeting at the Palmetto Learning Center.
Nominations for chair produced two named candidates: Kim Birch and Dr. Darren Coleman. The board closed nominations and held a show-of-hands vote; Birch received six votes and Coleman received three. The newly elected chair took the gavel after the result was announced.
For vice chair, Scott Sims and Dr. Darren Coleman were nominated. A show-of-hands vote again produced a 6–3 tally in favor of Sims.
Nominations for secretary were made and Robert Teal was approved by acclamation.
The votes followed the swearing-in and organizational portion of the meeting; the board then proceeded with its regular agenda and a scheduled executive session. The elections were conducted orally and with show-of-hands, as recorded on the meeting record.
