Board members nominated and voted on leadership at the organizational portion of the meeting. A motion to nominate Jay Ferguson for president was offered and seconded; a roll-call vote followed and the board unanimously approved Ferguson as president. The board then nominated Barbie Washington for vice president and approved her by voice/roll-call vote.
The board considered two competing proposals on when to hold regular meetings. One motion, supported by community feedback, asked to move regular board meetings to 6 p.m.; that motion did not receive a second. The original motion to keep meetings on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 5 p.m. in the first-floor boardroom passed on roll-call.
Other routine votes approved continuing board meetings— taping and televised coverage on TV20, set the annual records commission meeting for June 10, 2025, at 9 a.m. in the board meeting room, and approved the consent agenda covering items 10.01 through 17.03. The board also appointed Barbie Washington as the student achievement liaison and voted to keep committee appointments "as is."
All recorded roll-call votes on these organizational items were unanimous in favor at the Jan. 13 meeting.
