Carteret County commissioners removed Item 13 from the consent agenda and later voted to table consideration of a requested utility easement for the North Carolina Coastal Federation so staff and commissioners could meet with the federation's representatives and engineer.
At the start of the meeting a commissioner asked to remove the easement approval for discussion. County staff noted the federation and an engineer were present at the meeting but the board preferred additional discussion to be scheduled. The board voted to table the item and requested staff arrange a meeting with the Coastal Federation and county representatives before bringing the easement back to a future agenda.
Commissioners said they preferred to discuss details with the Coastal Federation outside the consent agenda so the public and staff could be fully briefed and questions answered. Staff indicated the federation's engineers were available and that the item could return to a later meeting, possibly in February, after additional outreach and discussion.
Tabling preserves the county's ability to consider the easement after the planned discussion with the federation.
