Glendale Elementary recognizes December attendance, communications director wins six awards; donations clarified

The Glendale Elementary School District on Jan. 9 recognized Discovery Elementary for December student attendance and celebrated several communications and marketing awards earned by district staff, Superintendent Segata Jones told the governing board.
Segata Jones also clarified a recent media report that “GSD is receiving $36,000 worth of donations,” saying the figure represents multiple donations from different organizations rather than a single $36,000 check.
The meeting included several public recognitions: district leaders presented Discovery with an attendance award for December and distributed commemorative plaques, T-shirts and promotional items to board members. The superintendent and staff described a district-made board puzzle and a GSD-opoly board game created as part of the recognitions.
Communications staff member Adriana was recognized for recent regional and national honors. The district reported she and the communications team received three Awards of Excellence (branding and identity; a System of Care Center partnership-development video; and Spanish dual-language immersion program marketing) and three Awards of Merit (the Mosaic of Minds enrollment campaign, a district coloring book used in recruiting, and the kindergarten enrollment video). Jones said the team will present some of that work at the National School Boards Association conference after a regional American School Boards Association presentation.
Other brief items announced during the recognitions included a coffee truck provided by Gusto at Landmark for highest staff attendance during the first semester and a planned presentation by Dr. Luzaffitte and his team at a Southeast Conference on School Climate in Savannah, Georgia in June.
The superintendent also made light remarks about gifts and refreshments provided to board members, including edible cookie treats and promotional items for board appreciation. There were no public comments recorded during the meeting.
Ending: The district said it will publish a feature on the governing board in an upcoming edition of the local paper "The Star."
