Nash County Board of Education adopts agenda and moves into closed session at January work session

At its January work session the Nash County Board of Education adopted the meeting agenda and voted to enter a closed session to discuss confidential personnel files, initial employment matters and noncustodial student records, and to consult with the board attorney to preserve attorney-client privilege.

The board first adopted the agenda after a voice vote. Board member Lamb moved to adopt the agenda; board member Bissett seconded and the chair called for a voice vote. “Aye,” was the response and the chair said, “Motion carried.”

Later in the session, the board again adopted the agenda for that portion of the meeting — moved by board member Lamb and seconded by board member Gray — and then took a motion to move into closed session. Board member Whitfield moved that the board go into closed session “pursuant to General Statute 143-318.11(a)(1), (a)(3), and (a)(6), to prevent disclosure of confidential personal files under General Statute 115C-321, to consider matters relating to initial employment of individual employees, to prevent the disclosure of noncustodial student records under General Statute 115C-402, and to consult the board’s attorney in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege.” Board member Bissett seconded the motion, and the chair again called for a voice vote; the motion carried.

The transcript records no further action in open session after the vote; the board recessed the public portion and entered the closed session as stated on the record.

The open-record motions and voice votes to adopt the agenda and to enter closed session were the only formal actions taken during the portions of the meeting contained in the available transcript.
