The Summerville Town Council took the following formal actions at its Jan. 9, 2025 meeting. Where available, the council recorded voice votes and procedural notes.
1) Petition — Dorchester County Career and Technology Center annexation (TMS 145-1503044 & 045, approx. 2.13 acres): First reading approved. (Motion carried by voice vote.)
2) Petition — John H. & Nancy S. Hill annexation and rezoning (TMS 13-60900036, 1501 Central Avenue, approx. 6.4 acres): Council amended motion to deny the rezoning and denial carried; denial of rezoning terminated the annexation. (Motion carried by voice vote.)
3) Second and final reading — Ordinance to annex TMS 137-050-4013 (Willis Lane, approx. 0.57 acres) requested GR-2: Approved on second and final reading. (Voice vote; ayes recorded.)
4) Second and final reading — Ordinance to sell town-owned Park and Ride property (TMS 13-71109001 off Berlin G. Myers Parkway and East 6 South Street): Approved. Council discussion included comments urging reconsideration of commission practices in future real estate transactions; sale proceeded to approval. (Voice vote; ayes recorded.)

10) Grant acceptance — Federal Safe Streets Planning Grant accepted; council authorized the town administrator to execute the grant agreement. The grant requires a $60,000 local match to be funded in the town's FY2026 budget. (Motion carried by voice vote.)
11) Miscellaneous — Discussion and instruction to staff to initiate a UDO amendment regarding bed-and-breakfast zoning (request by Councilmember Tiffany Johnson Wilson): Council voted to initiate the UDO amendment process; staff to draft and forward to Planning Commission. Several agenda items were clarified from the dais: two spot rezoning requests that had been listed were withdrawn by applicants and were not considered on the council floor. For each item above, council directed staff to follow standard procedural steps required for ordinances, annexations and UDO amendments; most approvals were by voice vote and the mayor declared motions approved.
