Chamber outlines countywide vision plan, selects Broad Ripple Strategies as consultant

Representatives of the regional chamber briefed the Summerville Town Council Jan. 9 on a Dorchester County-wide vision plan and said the chamber has selected Broad Ripple Strategies as the preferred consulting firm.
A chamber spokesperson told the council the selection followed a request-for-proposal process that generated interest from 11 firms and narrowed finalists to four. The chamber said Broad Ripple Strategies was chosen for its economic development experience, knowledge of funding sources and emphasis on implementation and measurable outcomes.
The consultant and chamber plan will initially focus on a three-year effort with annual scorecards and checkpoints. Key topics identified by chamber representatives include attainable housing, child care, mobility and trails, workforce training, shopping locally and addressing school funding disparities between school districts (referred to in the briefing as DD2 and DD4). The chamber asked for participation from municipal and county officials and community members in task forces and subgroups and noted the plan would require both financial support and broad civic engagement.
Council members thanked the chamber and expressed support for a coordinated countywide effort. Chris Kaler, identified in remarks as the chamber board chairman, and Rita Alba, described in the briefing as a longstanding chamber leader, were present with other board members.
No formal council action was required on the presentation; the item was presented for information and to ask for future participation and potential financial support during the plan's implementation phase.
