City staff told Rochester Hills City Council on Dec. 16 that a $300,000 nonprofit assistance program funded through the American Rescue Plan Act supported 18 local organizations in 2024, with awards ranging from about $7,000 to $30,000.
City staff presentation and results
Mr. Snyder presented the program as a one‑time ARPA‑funded effort to reimburse local nonprofits providing services to Rochester Hills residents. He reported that 90.5 percent of the grant funds — roughly $287,000 — have been awarded to date and that 16 of the 18 grantees had been closed out administratively; the remaining two grantees are expected to receive their full awards in the first quarter of 2025.
Grantee focus areas and community impact
Snyder said the awards targeted education, mental health, emergency housing assistance and food assistance. A short video played for council included statements from nonprofit representatives describing expanded adult‑education programming, hospital/hospice book programs for children, and increased food provisioning for families.
Council reaction and next steps
Council had no questions and thanked staff for administering the program. Snyder noted the city used general fund dollars — recognized previously as ARPA revenue replacement — to avoid federal timing restrictions and to finalize awards after Dec. 31, 2024.
