Council approves 2025 business-license renewals, holds several for follow-up

Far West City Council voted to approve the city’s 2025 business-license renewals with exceptions for a list of flagged businesses that councilmembers asked staff to investigate further.
Council discussion cataloged multiple businesses whose addresses, site-plan compliance, conditional-use permits or actual operations raised concerns. Items the council asked staff to follow up on included: TriStar/site-plan compliance; Far West Barber Shop (address discrepancy); Associated Foods (truck parking on a city road); Bella’s (bus storage concerns); RW Woodworks (residential address used for full-scale woodworking business); Far West Auto (noncompliance of rear yard operations); Mountain Land Supply Company (site-plan updates); Rocky Mountain Aluminum Art (temporary operations); Utah Structures (site-plan and temporary status resolution); Rocky Mountain Fence Company (site-plan/conditional-use compliance); J & G Automotive (operating without license); several multi-business registrations at residential addresses; and a Fisher Homestead Assisted Living project where construction was stopped.
Councilmember Boyd moved to approve the 25 business-license renewals with the exception of the businesses discussed at the meeting; the motion passed unanimously. Councilmembers instructed staff to compile a list of the licenses to be placed on hold so that staff could verify address, site-plan compliance and conditional-use status and pursue enforcement where businesses were operating without a license.
Councilmembers also discussed longer-running noncompliance cases and asked that code enforcement follow through with notice and escalated actions when voluntary compliance is not achieved.
The motion approved the bulk renewals while preserving the council’s option to withhold or revoke any license that is not in compliance.
