Rochester Hills City Council voted Dec. 16 to participate in the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office three‑year law‑enforcement contract that sets a 17 percent rate increase for 2025 and 9 percent increases for 2026 and 2027.
City staff said the increases, approved earlier by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, were larger than the amounts the city included in its 2025 budget and will require the city to use police fund balance unless the county agrees to modify the timing of the increases. “This is an absolute monkey wrench thrown into our city's very well tuned financial system,” City staff member Mr. Snyder told the council during the presentation.
