The Richmond City Council voted to adopt a resolution designating which council member shall serve on standing committees and on various boards, commissions and collegial bodies.
Council President Newbill presented a slate of committee chairs, vice chairs, members and alternates for standing committees including Education and Human Services; Finance and Economic Development; Government Operations; Land Use, Housing and Transportation; Organizational Development; and Public Safety. The president said the appointments were populated "pursuant to conversations with each of you" and noted some vacant spots would be filled later.
The list presented at the meeting named chairs and vice chairs for each committee and also included several members and alternates. For example, the president listed Education and Human Services chair as "council member Blanche" with vice chair "member Bridal," and Council member Jones as a member with Council member Robertson as alternate; Finance and Economic Development chair was listed as Council member Robertson with vice chair Council member Jones and member Council member Lynch and alternate Council member Abubakar; Government Operations chair was listed as Council member Jurden as chair, with vice chair Council member Abubakar and member Council member Gibson and alternate Council member Breton. Public Safety was listed with Council member Trammell as chair and vice chair Council member Lynch. The president said the displayed roster could be enlarged on screen for members to review.
No members of the public registered to speak on the appointments. After a brief opportunity for members to ask clarifying questions, the council adopted the resolution by recorded vote.
Votes recorded at final question were: Mr. Breton: Aye; Miss Gibson: Yes; Miss Jones: Aye; Miss Robertson: Aye; Miss Lynch: Aye; Miss Trammell: Aye; Miss Abubakar: Aye; Vice President Jordan: Aye; President Newbill: Aye. The president concluded the special meeting after adoption.
