Committee forwards easement to HELCO to serve Keo Keolalani subdivision

The Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions voted to forward Resolution 43-25, authorizing the County of Hawaii to grant an easement for utility purposes to Hawaii Electric Light Company Inc. (HELCO) over tax map key 6-8-041023 to provide electrical service to the new Keo Keolalani at Waikoloa subdivision in South Kohala.
The measure was introduced at the committee meeting on Jan. 7, 2025, and read into the record by the clerk. The clerk said the resolution "allows for the installation of vacuum switch equipment with an independent appraisal valued at $590." No members of the public provided testimony on the resolution at the meeting.
Chair Dennis Preschinishi called for a motion; Council Member Kerkowitz moved to forward Resolution 43-25 to the full council with a favorable recommendation and was seconded by Council Member Hootesen. The committee recorded seven ayes and two excused members (Miss Kimball and Kanali'i Kleinfeld). The motion to move the resolution to the council passed.
Committee members did not request additional conditions or supplemental reports during the discussion. The committee did not take further action beyond forwarding the resolution to the council for final consideration and any subsequent steps required to record the easement.
The resolution will next appear before the full Hawaii County Council for consideration and any required final approval.
