The Bladen County Board of Commissioners formally recognized Jill Sampson as the county's newly appointed director of the Department of Social Services during its Jan. 6 meeting.
Commissioners introduced Sampson, who took the oath of office last week. Sampson described her trajectory in county government: she moved from the Bladen County School System into county government as a secretary, then worked as a frontline child-protective-services worker, advanced to CPS supervisor, became social work program manager and was appointed director. She told the board she learned the agency from "one side of the agency" to the other and looks forward to working with county officials and the community.
No formal action beyond recognition and welcome remarks was recorded; the board offered its congratulations.
