The West Jordan Planning Commission on Jan. 7 approved a preliminary major subdivision to create two lots for Nova West Jordan Power Generation, a planned centralized power generation site on approximately 27.65 acres at 6524 West Old Bingham Highway.
Chandler Swenson, representing Nova Data Centers, said the company will centralize power generation equipment — similar to the diesel generators already on the campus — on a single lot farther from nearby residences while remaining near the campus substation. Taylor Jensen, planning staff, said the subdivision was before the commission because the project requires dedication of roughly 35,100 square feet of property for a road expansion; otherwise the site plan approvals would be handled at staff level.
The commission voted to approve the preliminary major subdivision after a motion by Commissioner Hatch and a second by Commissioner Hollingsworth. Commissioner James Anderson disclosed a potential conflict of interest, stating that Nova is a client of his law firm; for the record he abstained from the vote.
Taylor Jensen said subsequent steps include final plat approval, preliminary and final site plan approvals and staff-level reviews for the buildings; the commission’s action was limited to the preliminary subdivision request.
No members of the public spoke on the application during the public hearing.
The commission’s approval carries typical conditions and the city will process final plats and site plans under staff review.
