Assessor reports large reappraisal effort; commissioners approve tax cancellations

Ada County assessor’s staff told the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 that the office recently completed a large reappraisal and is preparing to mail assessment notices and open appeal season.
An assessor’s office representative said the office reappraised about 46,000 residential parcels and an additional roughly 11,000 commercial parcels, a substantial workload that relied on positions the board approved for fiscal year 2025. The assessor’s office expects the next four to five months to be busy as it mails assessment notices, starts appeal season and sends about 5,000 personal-property declaration forms and several hundred agricultural applications.
Commissioners asked the assessor to remind taxpayers that the proper time to file an assessment appeal is early in the year — at or soon after mailing of assessment notices — rather than waiting until receipt of tax bills. The assessor’s office said staff will review calls about late notices and reverse late charges where postmarks indicate timely mailing.
Separately on the Jan. 7 agenda, the board voted to approve the tax cancellations listed on the agenda and authorized the chair to sign the documents on behalf of the board.
