NJEA representative urges Roselle Park board to resume talks despite declared impasse

Ted Simpaniuk, a representative of the New Jersey Education Association, used the public comment period to congratulate the newly constituted board and to press for immediate return to contract talks with district negotiators.
Simpaniuk said impasse had been declared between the Roselle Park Education Association and the board and that a mediator is pending, but he emphasized that "nothing stops us from going back to the table immediately" and urged the board to pursue negotiations. He also praised Superintendent Goyce and Patty Mauer, saying, "Hang on to them for dear life."
Simpaniuk said he has worked in Roselle Park for about seven years; during his remarks he briefly misspoke, referring to "Roselle" and then correcting to Roselle Park.
Another member of the public suggested that the district include a junior who will be a senior next year as part of student representation to help that student learn board procedures and become comfortable attending meetings.
After public comment, the board closed the public-comment portion of the agenda and moved on to other business.
