At a reorganization meeting held in the Roselle Park High School Auditorium, the Roselle Park Board of Education administered the oath of office to newly elected members and elected Dr. Brittany Kirkland as board president and Michael Ann Regan as vice president.
The board swore in Lucy Figueroa, Mark Fernandez and Zachary Infante. The meeting also included a presentation of the results from the November 5, 2024 school election: 10,052 registered voters and 6,320 ballots cast; Lucy Figueroa received 2,155 votes, Mark Fernandez 1,433 and Zachary Infante 1,420, according to materials presented at the meeting.
Why it matters: The reorganization meeting set the board’s leadership and approved standard governance items that guide meetings and ethics for the coming year.
Board members nominated and voted by roll call to select officers. After nominations, Dr. Brittany Kirkland was declared elected president; Michael Ann Regan was declared elected vice president. The board then moved to adopt reorganization items including the board’s policies and procedures, the New Jersey school board member code of ethics, and the annual schedule of meetings. The board approved those items by roll call vote.
During discussion of the annual meeting schedule, a board member asked whether the January 6 date could be moved to accommodate Orthodox Christmas; President Kirkland said the date could be changed and indicated the board would address that scheduling request.
The board announced its next open-session meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Roselle Park High School Auditorium.
