The Bay County Board of Education approved a service contract with Martin Associates to provide grant-writing services aimed at securing education-technology funding, voting 12-0 to authorize the agreement.
Mister Lawrence explained that the district previously worked with a grant writer on a Rural Utilities Service (RUS) grant that produced significant funding for education technology. He described the current agreement as payment for grant-writing services only and said the firm's fee is $88,100 with a reported 20 percent match obligation tied to grant awards. Lawrence said the firm had helped secure a prior technology grant for the district and that a high share of success was expected based on the district's economic status, noting there is no guarantee of award.
Lawrence said the district would use the grant writer to pursue technology items including interactive boards and other classroom equipment; the board discussed budgeting the match requirement in a future fiscal year if the grant is successful.
The motion to approve the service contract with Martin Associates passed on a roll-call vote with 12 yes votes.
