The Jonesboro City Council on Jan. 7 approved the Craighead County Solid Waste Disposal Authority (CCSWDA) 2025 budget and a traffic-sign ordinance, and moved two other items to a third reading.
The council adopted Resolution 24180, accepting the CCSWDA proposed 2025 budget and authorizing the mayor and city clerk to execute implementing documents. The resolution cites Act 677 of 2021 by the Arkansas General Assembly, which requires county and municipal members to review and approve the authority budget prior to the authority finalizing it. The council clerk announced that "that resolution does carry."
The council also adopted Ordinance 24031, authorizing the placement of various traffic signs at locations determined by the traffic-control committee. The mayor asked council members to cast their votes; the clerk announced the ordinance carried.
Two items were advanced to a third reading rather than being adopted at the meeting. Ordinance 24035, which would amend sections 9.1 and 9.2 of the stormwater drainage design manual as they relate to structures in flood zones identified as AE, AH, AO and A, was moved forward with no council discussion. Ordinance 24036, an authorization for Las Brisas Bar and Grill to apply for a private-club liquor license with the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, received one public-comment speaker and was advanced to a third reading.
Council housekeeping included adoption of the consent agenda and a voice vote in favor of naming Councilman Chris Moore as council pro tempore. The meeting record shows the consent agenda "does carry," and the pro tem nomination passed by voice vote.
