Public facilities staff summarized the capital investment list for city-owned buildings and infrastructure, describing design and construction items at the municipal airport, Canal Park waterproofing and improvements to parking decks and maintenance facilities.
Staff said several airport items are heavily funded by the Federal Aviation Administration but require city-funded design work this year to qualify for federal construction grants. Canal Park Stadium work includes full waterproofing of a wear slab and rehabilitation of concourse-level restrooms; staff said prior in-house demolition has been completed and planned contracting will follow the season.
Other items include replacement of nine vehicle lifts at Central Services (East Market Street), repairs and modernization of elevator systems at Stubs and other municipal buildings, and a new brine production system requiring an upgraded water line so the city can produce brine on-site and reduce salt use. Staff said the new salt storage facility will hold about 24,000 tons and carry a 25-year warranty; the existing dome is structurally limited and cannot be loaded to full capacity.
Council members asked for tours and status updates on the municipal service center and water facilities; staff said they will schedule those site visits and provide additional details on timing and costs.
