City staff reviewed the Cultural Heritage Board’s attendance policy and said the municipal code provides that any unexcused absences totaling 25% or more of regular meetings in a 12-month period may result in the position being vacated, subject to council ratification. Staff reported that, based on that rule, one member — Virtue Aurora — would be subject to seat vacancy; staff said Aurora had sent a resignation email and they had requested a signed letter to complete the record.
Staff told the board it would await the signed letter; if it is not received, staff may move the vacancy request forward to city council under the existing code. Staff also noted a broader municipal code update that could change the board’s membership count is in process and is expected to be considered by commission and council in early 2024.
Separately, staff member Brad announced he has accepted a new job that begins Nov. 1, which coincides with the board’s next meeting. Board members offered public thanks and made a motion to formally thank Brad for his work supporting the board. Several members praised Brad’s assistance in getting agendas prepared and helping the board move toward regular monthly work.
No further personnel actions were taken at the meeting; staff said recruiting to fill the staff position is ongoing and that they will manage follow-up consistent with municipal procedures.
