The Saratoga Springs mayor announced a public hearing set for Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. to consider a substantial amendment to the Franklin Community Center's 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award.

According to the mayor, the Franklin Community Center's original project — funded at $22,000 in the 2023 annual action plan — came in under budget by roughly $14,000 due to savings from the facilities manager and a local vendor. The center proposes to use the remaining funds to upgrade appliances and other equipment to more energy-efficient models, the mayor said.

The mayor said the proposed reallocation aligns with the original goal of improving energy efficiency and resident comfort while lowering heating costs. The council will hold a public hearing and then take a vote on the amendment at a subsequent meeting.

No formal vote on the amendment was taken at this meeting; the item was announced and placed on the agenda for public hearing and later action.
