Evansville MPO staff report progress on multiple road, bridge and sidewalk projects; some lettings delayed

The update covered local projects including the City of Evansville Walnut Street Phase 3, where "much of the construction from US 41 to Canal Street is complete," and utility relocations and storm sewer installation continuing "from Heidelbach Avenue to Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard." Oak Hill Road work in Vanderburgh County was reported as under construction; the contractor has finished water main installation in phase 2 through William Brooks Drive and will complete hydrants and services after testing and chlorination.
At the state level, staff said contractors have completed several projects: bridge deck replacement work and the I-69 bridge deck overlay. The US 41 pedestrian bridge is open to pedestrian traffic, and work on the median U-turn is ongoing. Several pavement and intersection improvement projects were described as moving into subsequent construction phases, with some left-turn restrictions to be expected during work on southbound lanes.
Pam also reported schedule and funding notes: a State Road 66 slide-correction project has been awarded and awaits a preconstruction meeting; the US 41 at Lynch Road intersection improvement was moved to a November 2027 letting "due to lack of funding in the current fiscal year," and designers reinstated an added right-turn lane after central office approval. For other projects — State Road 68 bridge replacement, State Road 62 substructure work, and several small-structure and drain projects — staff reported final tracing documents or environmental permitting in progress and identified expected review or letting months.
Several projects were removed or suspended from the update sheets: a State Route 61 concrete pavement restoration project is currently suspended, and some bridge thin-deck overlay projects were removed following funding shortfalls. Pam said environmental and utility coordination work continues on multiple projects, and some projects were moved to future letting windows to allow additional time for required utility relocations and document completion.
The presentation included updates across Indiana and Kentucky jurisdictions and noted that some changes reflect funding availability and central-office review schedules. Pam invited questions but none were raised during the meeting.
Future steps noted by staff include completing outstanding environmental reports and utility agreements, holding preconstruction meetings for awarded projects, and moving projects through their remaining design and letting steps.
