An auction facilitator reported competitive participation, with FreePoint Energy and Constellation New Energy among the leading bidders. The facilitator said the 42‑month bid produced the lowest priced offer and noted Constellation is the incumbent supplier. County staff said a separate, unofficial request was made to Constellation to waive a June capacity charge of about $2,400; the facilitator said such a waiver would be outside the apples‑to‑apples auction process and was not guaranteed.
“Based on price and our existing contract paperwork, the 42‑month renewal with Constellation was recommended,” the presenter said. Commissioners moved, amended the agenda to add an award item and then voted to accept the 42‑month Constellation proposal. The contract paperwork will be finalized for electronic signature and is expected to begin with the county’s July metering date.
Commissioners and staff thanked county procurement and utility‑management staff for running the process and noted that volatile capacity markets and ancillary charges have complicated energy procurement in 2025.
The motion to award the contract listed Constellation New Energy as the selected supplier; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. County staff said they would finalize contract language and proceed with e‑signature within the next hour.
