The Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution recognizing June 2025 as Gun Violence Awareness Month and June 6, 2025 as Gun Violence Awareness Day, the board announced.
During the ceremony and public-comment portion, community members described local violence-intervention efforts and personal experiences. A community presenter noted Advanced Peace’s work responding to shootings and mediating retaliation; another speaker, Sean Anderson, described his background as a part-time peacekeeper and his work engaging with people affected by gun violence.
Sean Anderson said, “I was a peacekeeper part time. I was vetting, so I was the person that go meet these young dudes and talk to them and tell them about the program. And, of course, I've been through it. I'm 37 years old. I've been to prison. I've been shot up multiple times in 2 different occasion. I lost my only blood brother.”
A board member presented the resolution and read the closing paragraph noting Solano County’s position among Bay Area counties on gun violence and encouraging residents to participate in community activities, reduce unsafe access to firearms, create protective environments such as mentoring programs, seek local mental-health services and use the national hotline by calling 988.
The resolution was adopted 5-0.
Ending: Presenters urged residents to wear orange for awareness and to participate in local events and ongoing community-based violence-intervention programs.
