CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. — During public comment on June 3, a group of 47 residents asked the council to consider a municipal code that would prohibit pickleball on the Forest Hill Park tennis courts, saying the sport’s noise is disruptive to nearby homes.
John Jarmillo, who identified himself as a resident near the Forest Hill Park courts, told the council the noise from pickleball can be “intolerable” and cited acoustic experts who, he said, compared the sound level to a shooting range. He asked the council to place the matter on the July agenda and said the municipal code could mirror other local prohibitions such as the city’s ban on beach fires.
No formal action was taken during the meeting; the chair (mayor) and staff indicated the request could be added to the July agenda for further consideration and more detailed analysis.
