Cheatham County Commission approves Pleasantview Volunteer Fire Department donations after contract wording change

Commissioner BJ Hudspeth moved to approve the donations with the requested deletion; Commissioner Diana Lovell seconded. The motion passed on a roll call of 11–0 with one member absent.
Hudspeth asked the commission to remove the sentence that would have required a “prominent disclosure that the services provided by Pleasantview Volunteer Fire Department are funded by county taxes, levied for that purpose.” Hudspeth said the remaining contract language would still require the department to notify the county chief at least two weeks before solicitation and to make clear that donations are voluntary and do not affect emergency response.
Commission discussion focused on the specific wording Hudspeth identified and on preserving notification and transparency requirements in the contract. There was no recorded public comment on this item during the meeting.
The commission first considered rescinding an earlier April motion related to the item; that rescission was moved by Commissioner Walter Weakley and carried before the approval with the deletion. The commission recorded the final approval and the contract revision during the regular business portion of the meeting and scheduled no additional hearings on the matter.
The action requires the Pleasantview department to continue standard notification procedures described in the contract, including the 14‑day notification prior to solicitation and the county’s reserved right to issue further guidance.
At the time of the vote, commissioners present were Diana Lovell, Eugene Evans, James Hedgepeth, Mike Breedlove, David Anderson, Carlton Blacker, Randy Noe, Tim Williamson, Chris Gilmore, BJ Hudspeth and Bill Powers. One commissioner was absent.
