Rogers board honors retirees and student state qualifiers at May meeting

Rogers Public Schools used the May board meeting to recognize retiring staff and student accomplishments across athletics, music, FBLA and academic growth awards.
Superintendent Dr. Perry and board members called more than two dozen retirees by name, presenting commemorative clocks and expressing appreciation for “more than 1,000 years of experience” among this year’s retirees. Board members asked principals to collect gifts for retirees who were not present.
The board also recognized multiple student achievements: Cordelia Peek was named Oakdale Middle School’s 2025 Amazing Shake winner; Heritage and Rogers high school track teams and individual athletes were honored for state championships and top placings; Rogers High School Girls Track was recognized as 6A state runner‑up, with specific event winners noted including meet record performances. Coaches and students described season highlights and upcoming plans, including scholarship moves and college commitments.
Heritage High School and Rogers New Tech FBLA chapters were recognized for state titles and for qualifying students to national competitions. Belinda Jones, FBLA sponsor at Heritage, and other coaching staff accepted honors and described state and national contest experiences.
Music students from choir, band and orchestra were named to All‑State ensembles and the Rogers Chamber Singers were invited to perform at the 2025 Arkansas State Music Conference in Russellville after a blind adjudication process.
Three elementary schools — Tucker, Lowell and Reagan — received academic growth awards from the University of Arkansas Office of Educational Policy for student academic growth; Tucker was singled out as the highest scoring in the district and named outstanding educational leader for its growth results.
The board also presented the Community Impact Award in memory of Whitey Smith and his family for multi‑decade financial and community support, noting funds raised for student programs over decades.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no policy or funding actions were taken during the presentation portion of the meeting.
