Yamhill council hears resignation letter, administers oaths and names interim council president

A resignation letter asking the council to consider the author's resignation as councilor and council president effective Jan. 8, 2025 was read into the public record at the start of the City of Yamhill's Jan. 8 council meeting.

The council administered oaths of office to newly seated members during the meeting. Tim Maskey was sworn in; later in the meeting Chris Featherston also took the oath. Shea Hilligan took an oath in which she said she would "perform the duties of mayor for the City of Yamhill to the best of my ability." These oath statements were read aloud during the ceremony.

Following the swearing-in, the council nominated and voted to appoint Tim Askey as interim (pro tem) council president to serve until a vacant council position is filled. A motion to appoint Askey was made, seconded and the council confirmed an interim council president; the transcript records the motion, a second and confirmation that the interim council president was appointed.

Council members received informational "council notebooks" containing meeting calendars, procedures and training information; council staff described the notebooks as city property to be returned at the end of a term and noted a blank notes section for use by individual members.

The meeting then continued with other agenda items and department updates.
