Andy told the board he will gather information, including a cost estimate for a special election, and bring details to the board's February work session so the board can select a path and set a timeline.
Andy said an appointment can be completed more quickly but that either an appointment or a board selection requires a 30-day waiting period for public comment before the appointee would take the seat. He estimated the cost of a special election in the district “between $10,000 and $20,000,” and noted bond counsel fees could be about $7,500; he said he would firm up the estimate.
Board Chair Denny opened the meeting and called for a motion to accept the resignation; the motion passed on a voice vote. Board members present were recorded as voting to accept the resignation; two members, Denny and Kim, were absent for roll call later in the meeting.
The board directed Superintendent Andy to collect details and return with a recommendation at the February work session; the board expects to act at the February business meeting to set a timeline for filling the vacancy.
No further formal actions on the vacancy were taken at the meeting.
