Campus employee introduces new WISE group to board: 'Women Inspiring Student Excellence'

Bridget Bolden, who identified herself as a Manor ISD employee, used the public comment period on Dec. 16 to introduce a newly formed staff group called WISE (Women Inspiring Student Excellence).
Bolden said the group was convened by Dr. Tammy Williams Hill and that it focuses on academic support, mentoring and community-building for students who are underperforming in math and reading, with a stated primary focus "on the ones that look like me," language Bolden used in her remarks. She described WISE's mission as supporting students' academic skills and their social-emotional development through listening, mentoring and partnership with principals and campuses.
"We stand in unity as one Manor ISD ... to ensure that we help all students, and let me repeat that: all students with a primary focus on the ones that look like me," Bolden said.
Bolden told trustees WISE will meet with principals next month to discuss how the group can support campus programs and that members will be visible at campuses in purple to indicate their presence. Trustees did not take action on the comment; public-comment rules were reiterated to the speaker before she began.
