Manor ISD board rejects staff resignation, appoints police lieutenant and approves winter‑weather pay

The Manor Independent School District Board of Trustees on Jan. 28 voted 6-0 to find there was "no good cause" to accept the resignation of Mackenzie Spencer, to appoint James Hefty as a lieutenant in the Manor ISD Police Department and to approve a resolution compensating employees for a recent winter-weather closure.
The board's action on the resignation came during closed-session action items. "Madam president, I move that the board make a finding that there is not good cause to support Mackenzie Spencer's resignation from her position at Manor ISD," Trustee Rusty Patterson moved; Trustee Martinez seconded the motion and the board voted 6-0 to approve the finding.
In a separate motion, Trustee Rodriguez Barnett moved to appoint James Hefty as the new police lieutenant for the Manor ISD Police Department; Trustee Lowery seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously. Lieutenant Hefty addressed trustees after the appointment: "I am deeply honored to accept the position of the Manor ISD Police Department lieutenant... I look forward to working together to foster a safe and supportive school community." The board also welcomed Hefty and asked district leadership to introduce him formally to the community.
Later in the meeting the board approved, by the same 6-0 vote, a resolution to compensate employees for school closure related to winter weather. Trustee Lowery made the motion and Trustee Howard seconded it.
