West Sacramento details West Acre Park rebuild after $8 million Prop 68 grant

City project manager Megan Gideon told the West Sacramento City Council on Feb. 19 that West Acre Park will be rebuilt using Prop 68 grant funding and is expected to finish construction by the end of 2025.
Gideon said the park design features a renovated skate park with a pump track, a custom play structure themed as a school bus with an integrated climbing wall, a splash pad, a new soccer field, pickleball and futsal courts, basketball courts, and a wellness labyrinth incorporating a reflexology footpath. She described design elements that will repurpose existing industrial buildings as part of the skate area.
Councilmembers praised the project and staff. City Manager and councilors noted the Prop 68 award was among the city’s largest park grants — “almost $8,000,000,” one councilmember said — and that the park will serve as a destination for district residents once completed. Gideon said the city will post monthly construction updates on the project website and that the awardee for the construction contract would be finalized pending council action on the consent agenda.
Why it matters: the package remakes an underutilized site and uses state park funding (Prop 68) to add play, sports and active recreation assets while tying in community partners for design elements.
