Missoula names snowplow “The Big Laplowski” after community contest

Missoula residents voted to name a city snowplow “The Big Laplowski,” the top choice in a community contest announced at the Feb. 24 City Council meeting.
Deputy Public Works Director Brian Hensel said the city received 388 name submissions and a committee narrowed the field to 20 choices that were posted on Engage Missoula for public voting. The top three vote-getters were The Big Laplowski (616 votes, submitted by Angela Medina), Scoop Dogg (323 votes, submitted by Will Campbell) and Darth Blader (309 votes, submitted by Chelsea Whitman).
Hensel thanked the Public Works Streets crews for long hours during recent storms and praised the community’s enthusiasm. He said winners will be photographed next to the plow and receive a swag bag; vinyl decals with the winning names will be applied when temperatures reach a safe level for adhesion (about 55°F).
Councilors and the mayor applauded the outreach effort as a way to recognize crews and engage residents in a lighthearted way while highlighting the work involved in winter street maintenance.
