Tualatin municipal court plans to offer wedding ceremonies; council to review fee schedule

Court staff told the Tualatin City Council on Feb. 24 that municipal court would like the council’s permission to offer wedding officiating services and would return with a recommended fee schedule.
Court Administrator Courtney Cammer told the council she and Don (municipal court staff) have received calls seeking wedding ceremonies and that a judge recently indicated he has the capacity to perform them. “We are here tonight to, ask for your consideration in Tualatin Municipal Court performing wedding ceremonies,” Cammer said. Staff said the court would schedule appointments and that demand has been a “handful or more a year,” so the change would not generate large volumes of business.
Councilor Hillier asked whether the judge had capacity; staff replied he has “semi‑retired from his private practice and…he’s available more now.” Councilors welcomed the idea and asked staff to return with a formal fee schedule for cost recovery and to publish the service on the city website.
There was no formal vote; staff will return to council with a fee schedule update for possible inclusion in the city’s fee schedule.
