Finance Committee approves minutes, three small grants and travel funding in voice votes

At its Feb. 25, 2025 meeting the New Castle County Council Finance Committee approved the minutes of its Feb. 18 meeting and voted by voice to authorize several small grants and a travel request.

The committee approved a $4,000 grant to the Village of Arden to pay for gas standby generators at the Guild Hall and Candlelight Dance Theater to support emergency power and municipal preparedness. Councilman Cartier moved the grant for Arden and the motion carried by voice vote.

The committee revised and approved funding for the Wilmington Grand Prix. Councilwoman Durham moved to revise the request from $2,500 to $2,000 to support police coverage along the race route; the motion to fund $2,000 carried by voice vote.

The committee approved a $1,250 grant to True Life Church to support its annual special-needs Easter egg hunt at the Pankajer corporate center. Councilwoman George said the event drew about 400 people last year and included accommodations such as flashing and noisy eggs to make the event accessible.

A travel request by Councilman Cartier to attend the National Association of Counties (NACo) legislative conference in Washington, D.C., in March was approved with the registration fee charged to District 12. Minutes from Feb. 18, 2025 were approved by voice vote at the start of the meeting.

All the above items were approved by voice vote; the meeting record did not show roll-call tallies for these items. No ordinances or resolutions were considered at the finance committee meeting.
