Committee report flags challenges to electrifying school-bus fleets

Simmons said many districts lack sufficient electrical capacity to support even one electric bus, let alone a full fleet. While state funding has been announced that may cover bus procurement, she said there are concerns over additional conditions, such as needed upgrades to electrical infrastructure at bus depots and schools.
The committee discussed topics for a legislative agenda this year, including English-language-learners, parent-advocate funding, E-rate cybersecurity funding and potential changes to the SALT cap. Simmons invited districts to submit topics for the agenda and noted the committee is monitoring state-level developments that could affect local cost and infrastructure needs.
