Capital projects committee selects north end of field for athletic building; design work to follow

At a capital projects update reported to the Monroe-Woodbury Board of Education on Dec. 19, committee members said they agreed to locate a planned athletic building (bathrooms and concessions) at the north end of the high-school field and that design work will proceed with that location in mind.
Miss McCleary, reporting for the capital project committee, said the Palumbo Group and engineering firm CPL met with the committee earlier in the day to review scope and timeline. The committee plans to invite the firms to present publicly to the full board in the coming months; the next capital project meeting is scheduled for March 27 (open to the public).
Committee members said multiple locations were considered, but the north end of the field offered better sight lines, avoided displacing the track-and-field jump areas and would not require moving the recently installed scoreboard. Moving the facility to the south end, they said, could have required an unbudgeted change order to relocate jump areas and could have interfered with sight lines and scoreboard placement.
Committee members described the north-end site as more open and easier to secure for events, and said survey work is needed before design details are finalized. The committee asked that designs and scope return to the board for public review once the location and utilities are confirmed.
